Core Competencies for Music Librarians and Music Library Professionals Task Force

Scope
The Core Competencies for Music Librarians and Professionals Task Force (CCMLP) will use the draft competencies and related research presented and feedback generated at the MLA Annual Meeting in Orlando 2017 to create a new “Core Competencies for Music Librarians and Music Library Professionals” document. This document will include the skills and knowledge needed to be a music librarian, while recognizing music librarians serve many varied and specialized roles within libraries, archives, and documentation centers.
Charge
1. Finalize a list of core competencies for music librarians and music library professionals.
2. Enumerate specific knowledge and skills critical to mastering each competency.
3. Develop introductory text that explains the purposes, uses, and potential limitations of the competencies document.
4. Provide documentation in the form of an accompanying report with information from works consulted and data from surveys and feedback forums in order to explain and support decision-making processes.

Revised Draft based on Board comments: August 31, 2018
Revised Draft posted for public comment: November 27, 2018
