Index and Bibliography Series - Submission Guidelines
Submission Guidelines for Proposals:
- Proposals should explain the topic, scope, methodology, and purpose of the publication, taking into account the criteria for evaluation specified under "Guidelines for Manuscript Submission" below. Explain how any anomalies are handled.
- Include a generous selection of sample entries from each list and index that will be included in the final publication, including entries that illustrate variant entries and "difficult" entries.
- Submit proposals to the editor printed double-spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. (No e-mail or faxes, please.)
Submission Guidelines for Manuscript Submission:
- Manuscripts for book projects should be printed double-spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper with 1 1/4 inch margins. Style guidelines may be found in the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition. Refer to chapter 16 for bibliographic citation format. (The submission format for electronic publications will be determined on a case-by-case basis.)
- Submissions in both paper and digital copy (Microsoft Word or ASCII text format) are requested.
- Manuscripts and proposals with evidence of work in progress will be considered with regard to the following, when applicable:

Are the procedures for use of the work sensible and clearly defined? |
Accuracy: |
Are the citations accurate? |
Annotations: |
Are annotations consistent in style and content? Are they free of excessive personal reflection and anecdotes? |
Audience: |
Is the work directed to a specific audience or relevant to a wide-ranging population? |
General text: |
Are preface, introduction, and explanations written clearly and succinctly? |
Longevity: |
Is there an approximate life-span for the work? |
Relevance: |
How does this work compare with others of this type, coverage, or area? |
Treatment: |
Is the topic appropriately defined? Is the subject matter comprehensively developed? |
- An abstract describing the content and function of the work should furnished at the time of submission.
