Navigating Change and Thriving:
What Every Music Librarian Needs to Know

Libraries are experiencing deep and rapid change. Dealing with budget cuts, added professional responsibilities, staff and collection realignments, and emerging technologies requires that librarians not only adapt to these changes but also provide leadership in managing them. Sometimes we find we have difficulty in dealing with change, either for ourselves or encouraging others to adopt these changes.
Administrators and managers will find this training eminently practical and a worthwhile investment for their staffs. During a time of organizational revolution in libraries, this workshop will help develop professionals who will:
v Turn change into a positive experience for themselves, their organizations, and patrons
v Not fear, resent, or obstruct change themselves, but instead direct it toward optimal results
v Assist paraprofessionals/support staff to manage change and thrive in the midst of it
v Function as effective facilitators in the change process
In this workshop, you will:
v Participate in a self-assessment test to discover your strengths and be able to use them
effectively in leadership roles
v Learn the differences between being a manager and being a leader
v Learn effective skills in cross-cultural communication and dealing with conflict
v Learn to "lead from the middle"
