2016 Conference Mentoring Program
If you will be attending your first national MLA meeting in Cincinnati, the Music Library Association would like to extend a special welcome to you by giving you the opportunity to participate in the MLA Conference Mentoring Program.
The intent of the Conference Mentoring Program is to assist a newcomer with getting the most out of the conference. Participants will be matched prior to the conference, and each person will receive an e-mail from the Coordinator with the contact information of your assigned partner.
SIGN UP TO BE EITHER A MENTOR OR A MENTEE!!
Expectations of those participating in the Conference Mentoring Program:
- Answer questions about the structure of MLA, the purposes of the conference, and how those purposes are carried out in the various forums
- Attend a session, roundtable, and/or exhibits together
- Introduce newcomers to people at the conference
Other opportunities for interacting include sharing a meal together or attending poster sessions. Mentors can further assist new MLA members by being friendly and supportive contacts shortly before, throughout, and perhaps after the annual meeting.
All first-time attendees to an MLA meeting will be invited to a First-Time Attendees Program and Buffet Dinner on Wednesday March 2nd from 5:00–6:45PM, followed by mentor/mentee match-ups from 6:45-7 PM. Mentors can then escort their mentees to the Opening Reception of the 85th Annual Meeting of the Music Library Association at 7:00 PM.
The MLA will develop a new Distance Mentoring Program to assist new members during the year between conferences. More details will be available at the annual meeting. One of the questions below is to gauge interest in participation, but will not be a commitment to join that program. We hope you will be interested!
The Registration deadline is Wednesday, February 24, 2016.
