Safeguarding the Past of the Future: Digital Preservation Issues and Practices

In a survey taken of MLA members by the Preservation Committee in early 2014, 60% of respondents indicated an interest in conference programming on digital preservation. As digital information proliferates at an astronomical rate, the need for preservation and curation of digital content -- and for people equipped to fulfill that need -- is only growing. Susan Malsbury will provide an overview of how she became involved in digital archives, and of the digital curation cycle. Jonathan Manton will speak on music-specific matters of digital preservation, and practices at Stanford's Archive of Recorded Sound.
