Rockin' @ your Public Library
For decades, public libraries have provided music-centered programming such as free concerts, lectures, and musical storytimes to community members of all ages. Many libraries are now taking their programs a step further to provide musical instruments, instruction, and music production equipment and/or software free to library patrons. Speakers from San Diego Public Library and The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County will discuss new program models such as group instrument lessons and music-focused Maker Spaces at their libraries. For example, San Diego Public Library's "Jammin' @ the Library" is a free beginning guitar instruction series and involves partnerships with a local university and a major guitar manufacturer. Cincinnati Library's "Little Bits Synthesizer Orchestra" program invited participants to assemble unique synthesizers using Korg Little Bits Synth modules and concluded with a performance where everyone made sounds with their creations at the same time.
