Committees and Subcommittees are appointed by the MLA President.  Committee and Subcommittee members must be current members of MLA.  Appointments usually follow the annual meeting each year.  If you are interested in joining one of Committees or Subcommittees, please email the chair of the group.

This committee identifies the concerns and interests of music librarians responsible for archives and special collections; advises the MLA membership on best practices for archival appraisal, acquisitions, processing, arrangement, description, preservation, and access; and provides a forum for information exchange and discussion among music archivists and librarians.

Purpose: to review applications and recommend to the Board annual recipients of the Kevin Freeman Travel Grant. The grant helps provide financial support to attend the MLA annual meeting for Music Library Association members who are library school students, recent library school graduates, or are in the first three years of her or his professional career as a music librarian.

Purpose:
To recommend to the Board publications that the Committee regards as qualified to receive the following prizes awarded annually by MLA:
* The Vincent H. Duckles Award for the best book-length bibliography or other research tool in music;
* The Richard S. Hill Award for the best article on music librarianship or article of a music-bibliographic nature;
* The Eva Judd O'Meara Award for the best review in Notes.

This committee works to identify and evaluate current trends, tools, services, and developments relating to technologies used by libraries and librarians, with special attention to their handling of music materials. It coordinates and facilitates the exchange of this information to the MLA membership.

The committee seeks to increase and significantly diversify MLA’s membership in all categories by reaching out to the broad range of populations we serve, as well as develop and implement an active and successful means of retaining current and future members by identifying and promoting the benefits and added value of membership in our Association.

The Instruction Subcommittee collects and facilitates the exchange of information concerning library and instruction programs in the area of music.

The Reference & Access Services Subcommittee investigates aspects of public services interactions, including the examination of past and present trends, and projection of future trends in public services.

Search committee for the newly created Open Access Editor position.

The committee maintains the Association’s web site and related online tools. The committee works with the Web Manager to advise the Board and the Association in all matters related to published web content and related web-based technologies. It establishes general policies and procedures related to the Association's web presence, and formulates policy related to web site design, maintenance, style, and content.

About MLA

The Music Library Association is the professional association for music libraries and librarianship in the United States. Founded in 1931, it has an international membership of librarians, musicians, scholars, educators, and members of the book and music trades. Complementing the Association’s national and international activities are eleven regional chapters that carry out its programs on the local level.
