Navigating Change and Thriving: What Every Music Librarian Needs to Know
Music libraries are experiencing deep and rapid change. Dealing with budget cuts, added professional responsibilities, staff and collection realignments, and emerging technologies requires that librarians not only adapt to these changes but also provide leadership in managing them. Sometimes we find we have difficulty in dealing with change, either for ourselves or encouraging others to adopt these changes. In this workshop, you will:
* Participate in a self-assessment test to discover your strengths and be able to use them effectively in leadership roles.
* Learn the differences between being a manager and being a leader.
* Learn effective skills in cross-cultural communication and dealing with conflict
* Learn to "lead from the middle”
Speakers to include:
Mark A. Puente, Director of Diversity and Leadership Programs, Association of Research Libraries (ARL)
Kathryn Deiss, Content Strategist, Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL)
Tracey Rudnick, University of Hartford
John Wagstaff, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Registration fee will be $160 per member/$180 per non-members. The minimum registration to move forward with the conference will be 40 people. In order for the participants to have a productive interactive session, the workshop will be capped at 50 people.
A waiting list will be kept if needed. Information packets for participants will be provided at the workshop. Lunch will not be provided. Participants will be able to go to a number of restaurants in the surrounding area near the hotel.
