Music Librarianship Workshops

The Education Committee of the Music Library Association in conjunction with the Music OCLC Users Group (MOUG) is pleased to offer educational workshops on the basics of music librarianship. Three workshops have been developed in the Educational Outreach Program: Sound recordings cataloging, music reference, and music collection development/acquisitions.

Workshops are offered in a variety of locations including national conferences of the Music Library Association, the Public Library Association, and the American Library Association as well as through library schools and library consortiums. In addition, chapters of the Music Library Association offer these workshops in their respective regions. Seasoned music librarians who have been trained as instructors in this program are available to teach these workshops. Workshops can be adapted to any length and can be catered to the needs of your organization or group. The focus of the workshops is on gaining practical skills in a specific area with opportunities to network with peers. Workshops are targeted to new music librarians who would like additional training, library students contemplating a specialization in music librarianship, general librarians who would like to learn more about music librarianship, library staff members who would benefit from knowing more about music librarianship, and seasoned music librarians who would like a refresher. Check the Current Workshops section of the page for upcoming workshops.

For additional information about the Educational Outreach Program including the history of the program, see the MLA Newsletter, no. 150.

If you are interesting in bringing one or more of these workshops to your area, please contact the coordinator of the program, Holling Smith-Borne at holling.j.smith-borne@vanderbilt.edu or (615) 322-5227.
