Glendale, California, is looking for a Senior Library Supervisor. Description: Under the supervision of a Library Administrator,
this mid-management position is responsible for managing the operations of the Brand Art and Music
Library. As part of the Library's management team, this position actively participates in projects, committees and decision-making related to the entire library system. implements personnel actions. Performs advanced professional library work that requires the use of
independent judgment in the application of professional library practices. Works on art or music
reference desks as needed. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed
in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's Degree in any field and a Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university. Four years of professional library work, including two years supervisory experience and two years of professional experience within an art or music library. An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may substitute for the listed minimum requirements. Knowledge of principles, trends, terminology and practices of modern library work. Knowledge of reference materials in the fields of art and music. Knowledge of the principles and methods of cataloging and classification. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Skill in problem solving and ability to think analytically. Ability to apply professional knowledge to the practical problems faced on the job. Ability to effectively supervise, review and evaluate employees' job performance, and to organize and direct workflow. Ability to establish smooth working relationships with a wide variety of people, including staff, coworkers, general public, community groups and the support group of Brand Library. Ability to exercise sound judgment in difficult or stressful situations. Ability to foster a teamwork environment and resolve interpersonal conflicts. Ability to interact effectively with a variety of temperaments. Ability to learn new library technology and train staff and public in its use. Ability to organize and direct the work of subordinates. Collection is embarking on a two-year project to process, preserve and catalog the newly acquired avant-garde theater collection of Robert M. Wilson. Under the general supervision of the Director of the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive, supervises the processing of a large video collection and creates original catalog records in RLIN. Reviews cataloging records. Supervises support staff. Monitors project budget and interacts with fiscal manager, as well as the budget and accounting departments. Processes invoices, check requisitions, and petty cash vouchers. Coordinates all transfer and transportation arrangements with video preservation facilities, off-site storage facilities, and donor organization. Responsible for all day-to-day interactions with donor organization including creating and maintaining cordial and cooperative relations, and all project correspondence. Maintains files and records. Performs related duties as required.
Eligibility Requirements: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Studies. Successfully demonstrated experience organizing and processing library or archival collections, preferably video. Demonstrated knowledge of theater history, with a desired emphasis on contemporary avant-garde or alternative movements. Successfully demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Experience maintaining financial records for projects, interaction with accounting department and vendors, creation of project budgets. Demonstrated knowledge of the MARC format and moving image materials cataloging rules. Demonstrated experience cataloging moving image materials in RLIN. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Ability to prioritize and organize effectively and maintain attention to detail. Reading knowledge of German or French preferred.

, Los Angeles, California, is looking for an Arts and Humanities Team Leader (Librarian/Information Services Professional). Description: The University of Southern California's Information Services Division (ISD) is seeking a creative and experienced librarian/subject specialist to lead its newly established Arts and Humanities Team. The successful candidate will plan, organize, staff, and manage the collection development, reference, instruction, and outreach activities of a team
of subject librarians. Reporting to the Director of Research Collections and Services, the Arts and Humanities Team Leader will collaborate with the other subject team leaders and with the leaders of the Undergraduate Learning and the Specialized Libraries and Archival Collections teams, with coordinators for reference, interlibrary loan, and instruction, and with the chairs of ISD's interdisciplinary centers to build collections and provide services. The team leader also will work closely with technical services and access services personnel to ensure quality control and ease of access to the collections. Specific duties will include budget planning, preparation, and management; developing policies and procedures; organizing, coordinating, and supervising team members' activities; and serving as a member of the new Collection Development Council. The team leader will be expected to lead by example, to accept selection assignments, and to engage in collection development, reference, and instruction activities as members of their teams.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to meeting the needs of the University's scholarly community; involvement in scholarly research and publication; a passion for collections, service, and teaching; a background that includes collection development, reference service, and instruction; close familiarity with building, managing, and accessing arts and humanities collections in academic libraries; familiarity with the latest technologies and trends in the field; a strong customer service orientation; an ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds; an ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in an organization undergoing substantial change; skills in recognizing talent, ability, and experience and in mobilizing diverse constituent team members into an energetic, cohesive, and productive whole; and a willingness to take risks in approaching solutions. He/She will need to have a successful record of leading team-based activities in an academic or research library. Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, or subject masters degree in the arts or humanities plus equivalent related library experience; at least five years experience in an academic or research library, with progressive responsibility and supervisory experience; experience in team-based research or library environments; demonstrated ability to work closely with faculty in support of their research and instructional needs; excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred: Ph.D. in the arts or humanities. Experience with academic library acquisition approval plans and building digital and electronic resource collections. Knowledge of applying current information retrieval and reference support technologies to library services. Familiarity with developing university information literacy programs. Foreign language capabilities.
Salary, Rank & Benefits: Librarian II or III; appointment rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Librarians at USC have faculty status, with the option for appointment on either the Continuing Appointment track or the renewable Contract Status track.
