General Information

Known for its leadership in distance learning and its mission to serve, J. Y. Joyner Library, East Carolina University (ECU) seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and service-oriented individual for the position of Assistant Music Librarian. The successful candidate will work with other faculty and staff members to ensure access to the holdings of the music library.

Position Details

Responsibilities: The Music Library, located in ECU's Fletcher Music Center, is staffed by two faculty librarians, three full-time support staff, and student assistants. Under the direction of the Head of the Music Library, this position incorporates a variety of public and technical service aspects. Public service responsibilities include reference service, bibliographic instruction, and general library supervision, which require some evening and weekend duties on a rotating basis. Technical services responsibilities include all cataloging of scores, sound recordings, and video recordings for the Music Library collection using OCLC and the Sirsi-Dynix Symphony integrated library system. Serves as Music Library webmaster with responsibility for both the intellectual content and technical maintenance of the Music Library's web site. Serves as subject liaison to the School of Theatre and Dance and works collaboratively with Joyner Library's collections and technical services division.

Finalists will be asked to make a brief presentation during the on-campus interview.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent; at least one degree in music; experience and/or substantial coursework in cataloging; familiarity with technology in a library setting; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with staff and users.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree from an appropriately accredited institution in music or related field, or substantial progress toward same; reference experience in an academic, research, or music library; experience with a national bibliographic utility and a local online library system; experience with authority control; instructional experience; knowledge of web page design applications; bibliographic knowledge of European languages; supervisory experience.

Salary and Benefits

Rank, Salary and Benefits: This is a renewable 12-month, fixed term contract position with faculty status. $43,500 minimum salary with a comprehensive fringe benefits package. Subsequent contract renewal is subject to university hiring guidelines.
