The Center arranges, sponsors, and co-sponsors a range of programs, conferences, symposia, and concerts. The Director's primary responsibilities are to provide vision for and administration of the Center as it works toward its mission of promoting research and scholarship in American vernacular music, fostering an understanding and appreciation of the nation's diverse musical culture, and supporting the educational programs of the University.
The Director coordinates the work of six full-time staff members, graduate assistants and interns; helps to shape a coherent collection development policy; develops scholarly and educational programs of interest on local, national, and international levels; maintains a professional profile at the national and international level; and fosters collaborative and productive partnerships within and across the university, academic, professional, and public communities.
The Director is the Center's budget officer and will explore all means to secure funding for its operation. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Mass Communication.
Excellence in teaching, research/creative activity, and service is expected for all positions. MTSU seeks candidates committed to using integrative technologies in teaching.
