Descriptive Cataloging Subcommittee

Purpose:
To formulate MLA policy on all matters related to the descriptive cataloging of music materials in libraries. Specifically, the Subcommittee is responsible for all matters concerning the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, the documents know collectively as the International Standard Bibliographic Description, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, Library of Congress Music Cataloging Decisions, and other supplemental guidelines, publications, and policies regarding the content (but not the encoding or transmission) of descriptive portions of the machine‑readable bibliographic record. Further, the Subcommittee tends to other matters deemed pertinent by the Bibliographic Control Committee. The Chair serves as the MLA representative to the ALA/ALCTS/CCS Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (CC:DA).
