Written from a position of self-doubt and on the brink of an emotional crisis, Tchaikovsky’s expressive Fifth Symphony is one of the composer’s most popular works. Guest conductor Marc Piollet makes his ASO debut leading the Orchestra in one of the earliest examples of a tone poem – Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture. American virtuoso Hilary Hahn explores Nielsen’s rarely performed, lyrically dramatic, Violin Concerto.
