TASK FORCE TO ADVISE THE MUSIC THESAURUS PROJECT
ANNUAL REPORT
Members: Mark McKnight (chair), Phillip De Sellem, Harriette Hemmasi, Amanda Maple, Jerry McBride, Brad Young
The Task Force is charged to advise and support the work of the Music Thesaurus Project (MTP). The task forces second meeting was held in Boston. The group reviewed priorities established the previous year at its initial meeting in New Orleans. Funding the project continues to be the most pressing concern and was the major topic of discussion of the Boston meeting. Members discussed the possibility of working with the MLA Development Committee in order to find funding support. Subsequent concerns from the Board regarding groups within MLA separately seeking funding, however, have caused the task force to consider other avenues in which to gain financial backing for the project. It was decided in Boston that the task force would sponsor a program at its open meeting in Los Angeles in which project director Harriette Hemmasi could bring members up-to-date on the status of the MTP. Members felt that this program would present a good opportunity to gain members support for the project. The establishment of a MTP Form/Genre Terminology Working Group to assist the project director in identifying and researching form/genre terms for inclusion in the Music Thesaurus, beginning with Western Art Music was also discussed.
