Summary of Year's Activities:
Work of the Subject Access Subcommittee members during the past year has included:

• Continuing assessment of the construction of FOLK SONGS headings and the adequacy of their relevant cross-references (Taras Pavalovsky)
• Summation and final report of the Working Group on Faceted Access to Music (Amanda Maple on behalf of the Working Group)
• Provisional list of headings representing 20th century music (Michael Colby, on behalf of the Working Group on Terminology in 20th Century Music)
• Proposal to survey the literature and possibly generate subject headings user-study (Laura Snyder)
• Analysis of current state of comparative, international subject cataloging (Brad Young, Mark Germer)
• Continued work on the Music Thesaurus Project (Harriette Hemmasi)
• Attendance of and reports on ALA Subject Analysis Committee meetings (Harriette Hemmasi).

Goals for the coming year are to pursue the involvements listed above (with the exception of the Working Group on Faceted Access to Music). Subcommittee members are also participating in a joint project with the ALA SAC Subcommittee on the Music Thesaurus Project to recode a sampling of LCSH music form and genre headings as field 655 and/or subfield $v, as appropriate, and to predict the possible impact this change in coding might cause for library systems, patrons and professionals.
