2002 Annual Report

The Task Force is charged to advise and support the work of the Music Thesaurus Project (MTP). Under the aegis of the Task Force, the Form/Genre Working Group has been assisting the director of the Music Thesaurus Project, Harriette Hemmasi, to identify and research form/genre terms in LC music headings for inclusion in the music thesaurus. At the meeting in Las Vegas, the Working Group discussed the results of their work to identify all musical form and genre terms currently used in LCSH. The group compiled not only a list of form and genre terms, but also lists of the instruments and languages associated with those terms. Out of the thousands of subject headings examined, only about 400 unique form and genre terms were identified. The Working Group was thanked by the BCC for its work and discharged. It is intended that the lists of terms will be applied during the coming year in metadata generated by the Indiana University Digital Music Library Project.
