Purpose: To formulate MLA policy on all matters related to the authority control of music materials in libraries. Specifically, the Subcommittee examines and proposes changes to the policies and conventions related to establishing, maintaining, and using authority data (names, titles, subjects) in bibliographic online environments. Any modifications to descriptive, subject, or coding conventions needed to support improved authority control are to be identified and referred to the appropriate Subcommittee. Further, the Subcommittee tends to other matters deemed pertinent by the Bibliographic Control Committee. The Chair serves as the MLA representative to the ALA/LITA/ALCTS Authority Control Interest Group (ACIG) and to the Online Audiovisual Catalogers Cataloging Policy Committee (OLAC-CAPC).
